This site ends in season 4 finale and out from there, we will go out of or own plot.
The fight between Katherine and Elena ends in the youngest doppelganger gets the cure, and instead of Katherine, she becomes the new human in town. Katherine never meant for that to happen, and most of all didn't want the pesky little doppelganger to get the cure. But since Elena tried to show it down her throat, the elder vampire crashed it in to Elena's mouth and left her in the hallway to become the human she was.
Silas figures out that one of the doppelgangers got the cure in their system and so go to the town he had heard so much about.
Stefan does not get trapped in the safe by Silas, but the immortal is in the town of Mystic Falls in search for the cure of his immortality and to find the doppelganger of his true love, to become the warlock he once was and to so die so he can join Amara in death.
